It was all a dream, I used to read Word-Up! Magazine Salt-N-Pepa and Heavy D in the limousine – Notorious B.I.G (Juicy)
My pastor, Dr. George D. Crenshaw often says in his sermons that when God gives you a vision, he will give you the provisions to carry it out. When we are young we dream about being a lot of things when we grow up. These days many have dreams of being a hip-hop superstar, an actor or an athlete.
Before I go further let me just say everyone can’t be a rapper, a DJ, a producer, an actor or an athlete. Sometimes the best thing you can do for hip-hop or the entertainment or sports business is going to school and becoming a lawyer, an accountant, a business manager, or one of the many not a glamorous professions behind the scenes. Our celebrities need brothers and sisters to handle their business as well. So you can still be in the business but on the business side. That being said it all starts with a dream.
I was a fiend before I became a teen, I melted microphones instead of cones of ice cream. Music- orientated, so when hip-hop was originated. Fitted like pieces of puzzle complicated. Cause I use to grab the mic and try to say “Yes Y’all” They tried to take it back and say that I’m too small… - Rakim (Microphone Fiend)
If this is what you want to do, don’t let anyone tell you it can’t be done. You are too small, too slow, too whatever, if you truly want to be that, know that all things are possible through Christ. Now what you don’t see on the music videos in the magazines interviews and in the movies is all the work it took for that person to become what they are. No matter what it is you want to do, give it your all, learn every aspect of it and pray. Prayer is as important as perfecting your craft. If God has given you that vision, putting Him first and lots of hard work can make it happen. The problem is we don’t get what we want, when we want. My pastor also often says, ‘Delayed doesn’t mean Denied, but sometimes just Deferred.” God answers all prayers, but He moves on His timetable not ours.
A lot of times the things we want to become and do in life require a lot or preparation. God has to prepare you to be able to handle what comes with that. And when we get what we want, the most important thing to God is to praise His name and give Him the glory. We forget how we got there, who helped us get there and as sure are God helped you get there, not making time for Him and giving Him the praise, He will take it away from us. This is something I can testify to first hand. So continue to dream, put God first and pray and it can be achieved. A teacher of mine used to say almost daily, “If you can see it, you can achieve it.”
“Hold fast to your dreams, for without them life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly.”- Langston Hughes
