Denver Broncos Quarterback Tim Tebow has the sports world talking about John 3:16 with win over reigning AFC Champions, Pittsburgh Steelers. On Sunday, January 8, Tim Tebow threw for 316 yards and averaged 31.6 yards per completion. Tebow a proud Christian used to wear his favorite bible verse on black eye shadow during games, until he was banned from painting scripture under his eye, during games. But what is amazing is how God used this quarterback’s performance to deliver the message to the masses that Sunday afternoon in the overtime win over the Steelers.
It’s not uncommon to Christian publications and websites to mention the popular christian bible verse. But when a playoff victory can get everyone writing, talking, tweeting and googling about one of the most known scripture. Every sports outlet from newscolumnist to ESPN and NFL analysts talking about Tebow’s exploits and even in some cases explaining the bible verse. Not to mention making the most important verse to Christians the most googled search term from Sunday evening on, and Tim Tebow the most tweeted topics on twitter, even more the birth of Jay Z and Beyonce’s new baby girl Blue Ivy Carter.
‘For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.’ – John 3:16.
Gregg Doyel, CBSSports.com National Columnist wrote, “Tebow threw for 316 yards Sunday against the Steelers — this game will go down in NFL lore as Tebow: 316.” The L.A. Times headlines read, ‘John 3:16 Message Delivered By Tim Tebow’s Arm’ and ‘Tim Tebow Delivers John 3:16 Message Without Saying A Word.’ Similar headlines about Tim Tebow and John 3:16 could be found in The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, USA Today, Chicago Sun Times, MSNBC, The Baltimore Sun, Sporting News.com, Yahoo Sports, CBS News, and almost every other regional newspaper. Even the hosts, Shelley Wynter & Tommy Bottoms of The Ugly Truth, an internet radio show in Atlanta broadcasting live from The Green Room, chimed in on Tim Tebow, his faith and John 3:16.
You couldn’t go anywhere all week without someone discussing it. From believers to non believers, Newscaster, Sportscasters, Talk Show hosts, employees at the water cooler, children in school. I’m not here to argue Tebow won because of favor because as Tommy Botttoms, host of The Ugly Truth said when we spoke after the show, “What about when he loses, he doesn’t have favor anymore?” Where I’m comin’ from is, its amazing how God used Tim Tebow one Sunday afternoon to get the world, Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hebrew Israelites and even atheist all discussing, goggling, tweeting about John 3:16. If that’s not God in action, I don’t know what it. Holla back I wanna hear your thoughts on the topic. Until next time this has been SportsTalk With AJ ROK!
