Editorial: Due to Chican George being an active contributor to Spiritual Minded Magazine, I didnt want it to look like favoritism by reviewing his new project ‘The Dead End Hip Hop Project Vol 1- The Prequel.’ But at the same time I didn’t want to punish dude cause he was a contributor. So we figured we would do things a little different here. I am posting the project and inviting you the listeners to write brief reviews, leave ya comments and tell the world what you think of ‘The Dead End Hip-Hop….’ So check it out and leave ya review, comments and feedback here….. - AJ ROK
More on The Dead End Hip-Hop Project Vol 1 – The Prequel, here is the description on Chican’s Choice: Released On February 1st (Dead End Hip Hop’s one year anniversary), available on bandcamp. This is a project revolving around the “culture” of hip hop. I actually have a quote that is the essence of the project…
“FIRST, YOU LEARN A CULTURE.
SECOND, YOU UNDERSTAND THE CULTURE.
THEN, YOU CAN CONVERT IT.”
The problem with so many rappers, is that they are good rappers-but don’t understand the rap/hip hop culture. Not just learning the history, but the different aspects of rap/hip hop. Secondly, they have to understand it. You may not like some things/aspects about hip hop, but you need to understand them! Many hip hop beefs and debates are started from lack of understanding of the culture. Only then, can you convert the culture. “Convert” means “to change“. The best artists (and sadly, some greedy record labels) ”changed” the game, because they learned and understood it.
Therefore, this isn’t going to be a “life changing” project, but a “culture changing” project. I take the topics that matter to the hip hop culture and challenge people to react to them. This is going to be a mix of Wale’s “a mixtape about nothing” and Phanatik’s “party over here” cds.
You will have an option to pay what ever you want for the project. If you pay a dollar…thanks. If you pay ten dollars…thanks. I just ask that you give according to how you feel the project did it’s job. Remember-this is just the “prequel“, so there will be more coming from this series. Thanks again to Dead End Hip Hop for educating everyone on the hip hop culture. Spread The Soup!creditsreleased 01 February 2012

Truth. Hip-Hop or any other genre of is a reflection of what is going on in tseicoy. Everyone wants to point out how materialistic/vain Hip- Hop culture has become but ask them if they really need their smart phones, hair extensions, new cars, expensive clothes or if they need 1000 cable channels and they start to understand why Hip-Hip is the way it is.

Nice Project! Chican George definitely gives us a feel on how Hip-hop was displayed back in the day. The tracks and even rhyming in the first few joints reflect that flavor. I really enjoyed track 3 (a great combo of soul, funk and hip-hop in one) The culture explanations were on point. I believe this project is good and would be more effective in conjunction with other artists that share the same theory and thoughts on the topic at hand(a series). As in every market the promotion of a product is to meet the people where they are and attract them to what you’re selling (so to speak). This project does that in some areas, I feel it is diverse in rhyme, music and culture of delivery. I look forward to seeing and hearing the reaction of others on this gift presented to us by a genuine classic hip-hop head.
